Direct-Response Email & SMS Copywriter

Remote | Part-Time Contract | 10–15 Hours per Week | $50–$75 USD per Hour

E-Care Behavioral Institute is a fast-growing online mental health education company serving licensed professionals. We regularly host live educational webinars, supported by recurring promotional broadcasts and automated email and SMS sequences.

Our existing copy performs, but it has never been systematically optimized. We are looking for a hands-on Direct-Response Email & SMS Copywriter to take ownership of these channels, improve our messaging, run meaningful tests, and continuously refine performance based on the results.

This is a writing and optimization role, not a position focused on creating strategy presentations. You will write recurring promotional emails, improve existing email and SMS flows, test new approaches, and use performance data to determine what to change next.

We are beginning with a part-time contract arrangement. If the partnership is successful and the results support it, there is a clear opportunity to expand the hours, scope, and potentially transition into a larger in-house role.

What You’ll Do

  • Write recurring promotional broadcast emails on a consistent weekly schedule
  • Review, rewrite, and optimize existing email and SMS automation flows
  • Develop compelling subject lines, hooks, body copy, and calls to action
  • Adapt messaging appropriately for email and SMS rather than treating SMS as a shortened email
  • Write webinar registration, reminder, attendance, follow-up, and promotional sequences
  • Develop new copy based on audience motivations, objections, and behavior
  • Create and run A/B tests across subject lines, hooks, offers, calls to action, and messaging angles
  • Evaluate performance data and iterate based on open rates, click rates, conversions, and other relevant metrics
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice appropriate for licensed professionals
  • Use urgency and persuasive direct-response techniques without making the messaging feel gimmicky
  • Provide brief, practical updates on what is working and what should be tested next
  • Make light copy edits directly inside the email or SMS platform when needed

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience writing direct-response email copy
  • Hands-on experience writing SMS marketing copy and automated SMS sequences
  • A portfolio containing actual emails or messages that were sent—not only spec work, mockups, or portfolio summaries
  • Experience writing for an established list with meaningful send volume
  • A measurable track record of improving email or SMS performance
  • Strong understanding of direct-response principles, including hooks, offers, urgency, objections, and calls to action
  • Experience writing both recurring promotional broadcasts and automated flows
  • Ability to write consistently on a weekly cadence and meet deadlines
  • Native-level written English and excellent command of tone, grammar, and clarity
  • Willingness to have your copy A/B tested directly against existing versions
  • Ability to overlap for at least three hours each working day with 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time
  • Availability to begin within approximately two weeks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing webinar, launch, or event-based email campaigns
  • E-commerce or other high-volume direct-response copywriting experience
  • Experience marketing to licensed, credentialed, or professional audiences
  • Healthcare, mental health, continuing education, or online education experience
  • Experience working in GoHighLevel
  • Familiarity with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar platforms
  • Comfort making light edits and implementing copy directly within an email or SMS platform
  • Interest in growing into a larger, long-term in-house role

What We’re Looking for in Your Track Record

We want to see real copy connected to real results. Strong examples may include:

  • Improving open or click-through rates on a recurring promotional broadcast
  • Writing or revising a sequence that measurably increased registrations, attendance, conversions, or revenue
  • Improving an automated flow through structured testing
  • Managing regular broadcast writing for an established subscriber list
  • Developing an SMS sequence that increased engagement or conversions

For each example, please explain what you wrote or changed, the results achieved, the timeframe, and your personal contribution.

What Success Looks Like

Within 30 days:

  • Complete onboarding and begin delivering promotional broadcasts on schedule
  • Review and document current email and SMS performance baselines
  • Identify the highest-priority opportunities for improvement
  • Launch the first A/B tests

Within 60 days:

  • Rewrite and optimize the highest-priority email and SMS flows
  • Establish a consistent testing and reporting process
  • Demonstrate measurable improvement against the original broadcast or flow performance

Within 90 days:

  • Optimize all core email and SMS flows
  • Establish a repeatable process for weekly writing, testing, and iteration
  • Provide enough performance evidence to determine whether the role should expand in hours and scope

Compensation and Schedule

  • Compensation: $50–$75 USD per hour, based on experience and portfolio strength
  • Initial monthly scope: Approximately $3,000 USD
  • Schedule: 10–15 hours per week
  • Engagement type: Part-time, fractional contract
  • Location: Fully remote
  • Time-zone requirement: At least three hours of daily overlap with 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time
  • Growth opportunity: Potential for increased hours, expanded responsibilities, and a future in-house role

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • Your resume
  • A link to samples of actual email and SMS copy that was sent
  • One example of an email or sequence that outperformed a previous version or benchmark
  • The relevant results, timeframe, and your exact contribution
  • A brief description of your experience with webinar, launch, or event-based campaigns
  • The email and SMS platforms you have used

Your portfolio should include the actual copy—not only screenshots of performance dashboards or general case-study summaries. Please remove or obscure any confidential client information before submitting.

Pay: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour
