Telecom Engineer 1 (ComEd Territory)

About the position

This position reports into the Utility Communication (UComm) Department and will provide technical support for the delivery and maintenance of IT solutions related to the Cyber, Fiber Optics, Firewall, Real Time Networks, SmartGrid, Transport (SONET/DWDM) and Wireless (RF) Communication technologies supporting Exelon. Position will provide technical support of the engineering, deployment, integration and ongoing support of high available telecommunications technologies throughout the Exelon Companies. This position supports the migration away from legacy communications to implement secure IP based network infrastructure in electric and gas substations along with other remote field locations throughout Exelon in accordance with established strategy, architecture, and compliance programs such as NERC-CIP to enable application communication. This role will work in collaboration with the network team, their leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project/design teams, to deliver secure & reliable transport and IP networks throughout Exelon's large & complex enterprise and real time operational environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and/or engineering support for engineering, deployment and operation of IT solutions related to the Cyber, Fiber Optics, Firewall, Real Time Networks, SmartGrid, Transport (SONET/DWDM) and Wireless (RF) Communication technologies supporting Exelon.
  • Support strong client relationships while working with the Utility business implementing various telecommunications technology projects and on-going maintenance of these technologies.
  • Assist IT Architecture and Engineering community in planning the introduction of new technologies and/or identifying the most appropriate technology choices to accomplish goals based on the Management Model.
  • Identify and provide Business and IT data on IT trends and issues. Propose advanced action items based on data trends discovered from data analysis.
  • Assist in the review of data protection requirements of business functions and document the available solutions and processes.
  • Enforce the established best practices, standards, procedures, guidelines and methodologies within the work area.
  • Complete assignments on time adhering to all SLAs. Determine appropriate time to market for assignments created and for assignments given to lesser experienced people.
  • Show technical leadership by taking responsibility for projects and assignments. Demonstrate company values, high ethical principles and personal integrity in everyday activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related discipline and 2-4 years' relevant experience in telecommunication, electrical, computer engineering and related communication technologies or 3-6 equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply basic monitoring concepts and how tools are used to meet those requirements.
  • Training, direct exposure, or experience in working with various real-time networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technical resources and collaborate with colleagues across the IT organization to solve problems.
  • Understanding of basic concept of TCP/IP network.
  • Demonstrates an orientation and sensitivity to customer service.
  • Ability to learn dependency management.
  • Conduct activities and tasks with energy and persistence. Follows through to completion.
  • Ability to seek and act on guidance, and direction from team members who are more experienced.
  • Driver's license and access to a car to visit substations and remote field locations.

  • Basic understanding of how the business works.
  • General knowledge of security as it relates to data sets, passwords, and user IDs, including the basic concepts of confidentiality and integrity.
